The parcel number (Hungarian: helyrajzi szám, “hrsz.”) is the unique identifier of every property in the land registry system. You will need it when buying or selling real estate, applying for a mortgage, or requesting a title deed.
The easiest way to find it
The parcel number can most easily be found using online map-based search tools. In the land registry mapping system developed by the Lechner Tudásközpont, you can search by address or directly on the map, free of charge and without login.
Alternatively, you can find it:
- on the title deed (tulajdoni lap)
- in real estate contracts
- at the land registry office
Why the online parcel search works well
The system is based on official land registry map data, which provides:
- no need for Ügyfélkapu+ or DÁP authentication
- mobile-friendly access
- regularly updated official map data
- search by address or interactive map navigation
What you can see on the map
- parcel boundaries
- parcel numbers (hrsz.)
- building outlines (for permitted structures)
- orthophoto and traditional map views
This is especially useful before purchasing property to verify whether the building and land correspond to official records.
Other places where you can find the parcel number
If you don’t want to use an online search tool, you may already have it in documents such as:
- title deed (top left corner)
- sale and purchase agreement
- donation agreement
- inheritance decision
- bank loan agreement
- energy performance certificate
If none of these are available, the land registry office or local municipality can also provide assistance.
Why the address is not enough
An address is not always a reliable identifier because:
- multiple buildings may exist on one plot
- in condominiums, several units share the same address
- rural properties may not have precise addresses
The parcel number, however, is unique within each settlement, which is why all official procedures are based on it.
